Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: To train professional nurses who possess qualified knowledge, skills and attitudes regarding the concepts, principles and rules of Internal Medicine Nursing, who can effectively utilise the nursing process with a holistic understanding and systematic approach, who are critical thinkers with problem-solving skills, and who are qualified to provide treatment and rehabilitation for healthy/ill individuals, families and communities, and the treatment and rehabilitation of illnesses.

Course Objective: It aims to provide theoretical and practical skills in the field of internal medicine nursing and the knowledge, skills and behaviors of providing care to individuals and families using the nursing process with a holistic and systematic approach and providing training and consultancy in this field.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
  1) Explains in detail the fundamental concepts, historical development, and the role of internal medicine in clinical practice.
  2) Comprehends the basic pathophysiology of cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, hematological, neurological, and renal diseases.
  3) Explains the etiology, risk factors, and epidemiological characteristics of commonly encountered acute and chronic diseases.
  4) Provides a detailed explanation of the role of clinical findings, laboratory tests, and imaging methods in the diagnosis of diseases.
  5) Explains pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options in relation to disease pathophysiology and clinical conditions.
  6) Explains the pathophysiology of acute and chronic organ failure and their intersystem effects.
  7) Explains the theoretical principles underlying patient safety, medical ethics, and clinical decision-making processes.
  8) Comprehends emergency findings in internal medicine and the diagnostic importance of critical conditions.

  1) Collects systematic and detailed information while taking patient history and analyzes findings in a clinical context.
  2) Correctly interprets physical examination findings and contributes to clinical diagnosis.
  3) Performs and evaluates cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and other system examinations correctly.
  4) Interprets laboratory and imaging results in relation to the patient’s clinical condition.
  5) Applies treatment plans for chronic and acute diseases according to clinical guidelines and patient characteristics.
  6) Demonstrates the ability for rapid diagnosis and appropriate intervention in emergency and critical situations.
  7) Assesses complication risks and applies preventive strategies
  8) Makes clinical decisions in accordance with patient safety and medical ethics.
  9) Manages pharmacological treatments appropriately and monitors side effects.

  5) Provides counseling for disease prevention and improvement of quality of life.
  6) Ensures patient safety by making quick and accurate decisions in critical and emergency situations.
  7) Takes responsibility in chronic disease management and coordinates follow-up processes.
  8) Continuously updates clinical practice by following current scientific literature.
  9) Applies approaches that enhance patient education and public health awareness.
