Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: This character-focused lecture examines topics of womanhood and women's writing via a diverse spectrum of literary texts. Female heroes in international literature, ranging from Brontë's Jane Eyre to Suat Derviş's Fosforlu Cevriye will be highlighted. What exactly is women's writing? What do women writers write? What are common themes, characters? What has changed since Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own? The course will enable students to look at literature through the perspective of gender while also inviting students to explore differences in the work of notable female writers in the world market.
Course Objective: This course will explore the key issues and debates in contemporary scholarship on women’s writing.
The students will be able to understand the impact of gender on literature and literary analysis.
The students will be able to define woman’s literature and appreciate it’s place in the canon.
