Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives:
Course Objective: Understanding old age.
To learn the principles and practices of elderly care
To learn the care of elderly individuals and situations requiring special care

  1) BASIC CONCEPTS RELATED TO OLD AGE: THEORIES RELATED TO THE PROCESS OF OLD AGE To learn the theories about the aging process, To create awareness about the process.
  2) PHYSIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CHANGES RELATED TO OLD AGE / HOLISTIC EVALUATION OF THE ELDERLY INDIVIDUAL Learning the physiological and psychological changes that occur in old age Learning the holistic assessment of the elderly individual Providing effective care management for elderly individuals in line with the information learnt
  3) NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL AGEING POLICIES PROTECTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF HEALTH IN ELDERLY PEOPLE To learn the development of international and national policies on ageing To recognise the policy needs related to old age. To be able to identify policy needs related to old age
  4) AGE DISCRIMINATION, STRATEGIES FOR NEGLECT AND ABUSE OF THE ELDERLY, AGING AND COMMUNICATION To be able to recognise neglect of the elderly To be able to distinguish elderly discrimination To be able to recognise elder abuse To learn what can be done to prevent discrimination, neglect and abuse against older people
  5) DEVELOPMENT OF SELF-CARE IN ELDERLY INDIVIDUALS To have knowledge about the protection, maintenance and self-care of the health of elderly individuals. To learn the self-care needs of the elderly, To ensure the fulfilment of daily living activities for the development of self-care of the elderly.
  6) MANAGEMENT OF CHRONIC DISEASES IN OLD AGE To raise awareness about the management of chronic diseases in the elderly. To explain the factors that cause chronic diseases in the elderly To be able to give information about the management of chronic diseases
  7) DEMENTIA AND CARE IN THE ELDERLY DEPRESSION AND CARE IN THE ELDERLY To have knowledge about dementia and depression in elderly individuals To be able to define dementia in elderly individuals To be able to express the types of dementia To have knowledge about Alzheimer's disease To be able to define depression in elderly individuals Analysing and improving the maintenance that can be done in these areas
  8) PAIN MANAGEMENT IN THE ELDERLY Understanding pain management To be able to effectively manage pain in elderly individuals
  9) DELIRIUM AND CARE IN THE ELDERLY Understanding the management of delirium To be able to provide delirium and its management in elderly individuals To be able to give effective care to the elderly person with delirium
  10) PREVENTION OF FALLS IN THE ELDERLY To give information about falls in elderly individuals Understanding of risk factors for falls in elderly individuals.
  11) PREVENTION OF HOME ACCIDENTS IN ELDERLY PEOPLE To give information about home accidents in elderly people Understanding of risk factors for accidents in elderly individuals. Understanding of initiatives to prevent home accidents in elderly individuals.
  12) WOUND CARE AND MANAGEMENT OF PRESSURE SORES IN THE ELDERLY To learn the concept of wound and wound care To be able to prevent pressure injuries that may occur in elderly individuals
  13) BASIC CARE PRACTICE RULES FOR THE ELDERLY To learn Basic Care Practices in the elderly Understanding Basic Care Practices in the Elderly
  14) To make a general review before the final exam. Explaining the points that students are stuck To support the formation of new ideas.
