Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: To know anatomical and morphological principles related to permanent teeth and surrounding tissues, to be familiar with the basic modelling by evaluating the anatomical and morphological features of permanent teeth.
To know the construction stages and laboratory procedures of complete dentures and removable partial dentures.
Course Objective: To explain the surface and edges of permanent teeth, morphological terms of teeth and supporting tissues, anatomical and morphological features of each permanent tooth in the oral cavity, and apply modelling.
To be able to apply the laboratory stages of complete dentures and removable partial dentures.
Mode of Delivery: Face to face

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
  1) Defines morphological terms, and terms regarding surface and edges of teeth.
  2) Defines the tooth (enamel, dentin, cementum) and supporting tissues (gingiva, periodontal ligament, alveolar bone).
  3) States the primary and permanent teeth in the oral cavity according to the universal numbering systems.
  4) Defines complete and partial edentulism, knows the anatomy of surrounding tissues.
  5) Knows vertical dimension of occlusion and vertical jaw relation
  6) Comprehends the construction of base plate, occlusal rim and tooth alignment.
  7) Knows partial denture connectors.
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) She/he can classify teeth, deciduous teeth and permanent teeth.
  2) Draws mesial, distal, vestibular, palatal/lingual , incisal/occlusal surface features of permanent teeth.
  3) Applies the modeling of permanent teeth from soap material (carving).
  4) Makes the classification of partial prosthesis.
  5) Lists the indications of full and partial dentures.
  6) Makes diagnosis and treatment planning in full and partial dentures.

  1) Comprehends and uses morphological knowledge, which is the basis of future professional practices.
  2) Solves the problems that she/he may encounter in dental prosthesis technician applications in her/his professional life with the knowledge and skills she/he has acquired.
  3) Applies laboratory construction techniques of complete and removable partial dentures.
