Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: It is aimed to comprehend the importance of healthy maternal and child nutrition, to determine the physiological, metabolic and endocrine changes in pregnancy and lactation and their interactions with nutrition, to determine the physiological and metabolic changes in infants, preschool-school age children and adolescents and their interactions with nutrition, to determine energy and nutrient requirements, to learn the principles of adequate and balanced nutrition, to interpret education and practices for clinical and community nutrition, and to be able to include them in practice areas.
Course Objective: To comprehend the importance of healthy maternal and child nutrition, to determine the physiological, metabolic and endocrine changes during pregnancy and lactation and interactions with nutrition, to learn nutrient requirements and to create appropriate nutrition plans.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
  1) Can create healthy nutrition plans suitable for mothers during pregnancy.
  2) Can create nutrition plans for the needs of individuals in preschool, school age and adolescence.
  3) It enables the creation of menus in accordance with the rules of healthy nutrition in special periods of life.
  4) Learns the basic principles of healthy maternal and infant nutrition.
  5) Learns the relationship between nutrition, allergy and microbiota in childhood
  6) Learns the principles of nutrition that support the healthy completion of the gestation period.
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) To be able to obtain information about nutrition programs and practices related to pregnant-pregnant, child and adolescent periods in Turkey and in the world and to develop recommendations.
  2) Learns the issues to be considered in the nutrition education of pregnant and lactating women, newborns, infants, preschool, school-age children and adolescents and makes education.
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1) Learn about the importance and sources of energy and macronutrients and micronutrients in this period.
  2) Learns the problems related to nutrition in these periods and can develop solutions.
  3) Obtains information about the composition and benefits of breast milk and provides education on encouragement.
  4) Learns about the time to start complementary feeding and the complementary foods that should be started according to the months.
