Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: The course aims to provide an analysis of the contemporary representations of gender, in all their messy contradictoriness. Its particular focus is upon how media constructions of gender have been in terms of different subjects.
Course Objective: Identifying and analysing the theoretical tools available for analysing media representations and interrogating some of the key terms that have been used to study gender in media texts in light of up-to-date discussions. Raising questions about what forms of political or cultural intervention are appropriate and effective to challenge the constructions of gender, in a period when critiques are incorporated into media products and sexism comes in an ironic guise.
Mode of Delivery: Face to face
