Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: To provide students with basic knowledge and skills in research methods and data analysis.
Conducting a literature review and evaluating scientific sources effectively.
To understand scientific publication criteria, to learn bibliography and research reporting processes.
To gain the ability to evaluate field-specific research.
Course Objective: Mastering basic research concepts.
To gain theoretical knowledge about data collection methods, sampling processes and analysis methods.
To be able to use SPSS program effectively.
Developing literature review and scientific reporting skills.
To evaluate research processes from a critical perspective.
To evaluate field-specific researches with a critical perspective.
Presenting research results clearly and effectively.
Understanding and applying ethical rules in scientific research.

  1) Evaluates the ethical rules and types of violations to be adhered to during the scientific research process and publication phase
  2) Formulates an original research problem and hypothesis by critically reviewing the relevant literature
  3) Writes the research proposal or report in accordance with scientific writing rules
  4) Designs valid and reliable data collection tools aimed at answering the research question

1) Introduction & Foundations of Scientific Research: What is science? Scientific method, types of research, and the nature of research.
2) Research Problem and Hypothesis: Selecting a research topic, defining the problem, research questions, and hypothesis formulation processes.
3) Literature Review: Using databases, accessing resources, and critical reading of the literature.
4) Scientific Research and Publication Ethics: Ethics committees, plagiarism, scientific integrity, and researcher responsibilities.
5) Quantitative Research Methods: Survey, experimental designs, correlational research, and causal-comparative methods.
6) Qualitative Research Methods: Phenomenology, case study, action research, and ethnography. Differences between qual and quant.
7) Population and Sampling: Definition of population, sampling methods (probability and non-probability), and sample size.

9) Data Collection Tools I (Questionnaire and Scale): Questionnaire development, scale types (Likert, etc.), and question preparation techniques.
10) Data Collection Tools II (Interview and Observation): Structured, semi-structured interview techniques, and observation forms.
11) Validity and Reliability: Concepts of validity and reliability in measurement tools, threats to internal and external validity.
12) Academic Writing I (Structure and Style): Use of scientific language, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion structure, and paragraph organization.
13) Academic Writing II (Referencing): In-text citation, bibliography creation rules (APA, Vancouver, etc.), and reference management tools.
14) Research Reporting and Article Review: Reporting findings, critical analysis of an article, and presentation techniques.
