Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: To know the basic concepts related to the care of healthy/sick individuals, to understand the philosophy, roles and functions of nursing, to know deontology and ethics.
Course Objective: To know the concepts of Human, Environment, Health and Disease and to explain the relationship of these concepts with nursing. To know and adopt the philosophy of nursing. To know Nursing Theory and Theorists.
To know the roles and responsibilities of the nurse and the professionalization process. Knowing evidence-based nursing interventions. Knowing human rights, deontology and ethics.

  1) Knows the historical development of the nursing profession and nursing education.
  2) Describes important individuals and events that have been influential in the development of the nursing profession.
  3) Explains the concept of deontology and its place in nursing.
  4) Explains ethical principles and theories (beneficence, nonmaleficence, autonomy, justice, etc.)
  5) Explains the differences between professional ethics and general ethics.
  6) Describes ethical dilemmas in nursing and approaches to resolution.
  7) Explains the concepts of patient rights and human rights.
  8) Explains national and international nursing ethical codes.
  9) Describes ethical and legal responsibilities in healthcare.
