Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: To have knowledge about microorganisms. Recognise and classify bacteria. To have knowledge about Gram staining. Recognise moulds and yeasts, to have information about their properties. To know the mode of reproduction of microorganisms.
Course Objective: To comprehend microorganisms, morphology of bacteria, yeasts and moulds, reproduction, nutritional properties, chemical structures, food and microorganism relations, indicator microorganisms, killing of microorganisms.

  1) Understands the general and distinguishing features of microorganisms
  2) Knows bacterial reproduction, genetics and chemistry.
  3) Has knowledge about parasitic viruses.
  4) Knows the immune system.

  6) Knows the usage areas of microscope types and other devices and instruments in microbiology laboratory
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) Explain the genetic systems of microorganisms
  2) Applies gram dyes
  3) Explain the mechanisms of action of antimicrobial agents and the resistance mechanisms developed by microorganisms against them.
  4) Classifies immune cells
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1) Have knowledge about the ways of transmission of diseases and methods of disease prevention
  2) Knows in depth the chemical structures used as food and how human nutrition occurs under different conditions, uses appropriate resources for this.
  3) Understands microbiological diagnosis methods
  4) Have knowledge about Gram staining
  5) Meslek içi ve meslekler arası iletişim kurabilir ve multidisipliner çalışmalarda en uygun ve güncel teknikleri alanına uygulayabilir.
