Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: Define art therapy. Teach general concepts related to art therapy. Teach how an art therapy session is structured and the contract.
Course Objective: 1. Explains what art therapy is.

2. Creates activities that allow the client to use art for self-expression.

3. Experiences and internalizes the language of nonviolent communication within the framework of art therapy.

4. Knows the stages of an art therapy session.

5. Explains the ethical principles of art therapy.

6. Understands the importance of professional principles and the concept of contracts and explains the requirements of contracts.

Course Topics

1) Creativity is defined. Creativity and art therapy are introduced through relationships. An introductory workshop is conducted using art therapy dynamics.
2) What is art therapy? Why is art therapy needed and where it is used. A brief history of art therapy is provided.
3) Art Therapy's Theme on the Unconscious Field Elements of the psyche, the unconscious realm, and artistic expression. Concepts of the psyche, ego, personal and collective unconscious, persona, anima animuk, and archetype are discussed. Their relationship to the creative process is taught.
4) Experience Workshop A circle experience in group therapy. (Performed in a semi-structured session format)
5) Fundamental concepts in art therapy Confidence building, alternative life experiences (creative process), aesthetic analysis, the interaction and transition between different modalities, and the intermodal approach are discussed. An experiential study of imagery is conducted.
6) Fundamental concepts in art therapy / Experience workshop Witnessing, nonjudgmental observation, aesthetic distance, aesthetic response. Concepts of aesthetic distance are taught, and an experience workshop is conducted on this topic.

8) Contracts in Art Therapy Developing a contract during a therapy session, its importance, and its terms. Discussions about contracts, job descriptions, and boundaries are often initiated, not only in therapy but also in all professional fields.
9) Week 9: Session Organization in Art Therapy I Stages and Features of the Session The "Intro" and "Warm-Up" stages are explained.
10) Session Organization in Art Therapy II Stages and Characteristics of the Session The "Artistic Work," "Circle," and "Closing" stages are explained.
11) Experience workshop Experience with the session stages. (Conducted in a semi-structured session format)
12) What are the General Components of Art Therapy? Session duration, use of time, Therapy area/room, Art materials, and the concept of "container" in art therapy are taught.
13) Group functioning in art therapy Group processes, transference, countertransference, conflict, and cohesion are discussed. Open for discussion. "Closing Workshop"
