Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: The phenomenon underlying the most important developments in the world in the last two centuries is the idea of nationalism. The concept of nation, which is the basic basis of modern state and society structure, is the manifestation of nationalist thought. Therefore, in the context of shaping borders and societies today, the theoretical course "Ethnic Problems and Nationalism" is considered useful.
Course Objective: 1) To explain the ideology of nationalism.
2) To inform students about the nation, ethnicity, ethnic conflicts and typologies of nationalism.
3) To develop an analytical perspective on nationalism and ethnic problems.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
  1) To have conceptual and theoretical background in international relations, international politics, public administration and social sciences in general; to be able to apply their knowledge in these fields.
  2) Ability to identify, define, collect data, analyze and interpret international/political/social problems: ability to apply scientific methods appropriate for these purposes.
  3) Ability to define a social/political/economic issue as an interdisciplinary problematic, to make comparisons and to relate it to different fields.
  4) Ability to follow new methods of accessing and producing knowledge; awareness of the necessity of lifelong learning.
  5) Awareness of professional, public ethics and social responsibility.
  6) Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in Turkish; knowledge of at least one foreign language. 0 7 Leadership, persuasiveness and ability to analyze in multiple ways.
  7) Developing the capacity to develop areas of cooperation with public, private sector and non-governmental organizations and to provide support.
