Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: This course serves as an accessible introduction to the fundamental concepts of Discourse Analysis. Students will explore the ways language functions in written and spoken forms. Through a series of online lessons and assessments, learners will gain insights into the various dimensions of discourse, including genres, critical discourse analysis, and the impact of technology. The course is designed to be approachable yet informative, making it suitable for students who may not have prior experience in linguistic analysis.
Course Objective: By the end of this course, students should be able to:
• Define key terms such as discourse, text, and context.
• Understand the relevance of discourse analysis in other fields
• Differentiate between oral and written discourse.
• Define and recognize different genres.
• Develop basic textual analysis skills for written discourse.
• Identify features of spoken discourse.
