Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: The aim of the course is to provide the students with the necessary cognitive and practical skills in order to produce spatial design solutions with character. Through group projects and individual work, the student gains both collaborative and personal project experience. Starting from his own body and his relationship with nature, the student examines the issues of spatial identity, atmosphere, body, proportion, movement, function and structure throughout the project and learns to produce designs that combine all these contexts.
Course Objective: The aim of the course is to enable the student to develop himself/herself theoretically and factually, and to gain the skills of understanding the context necessary for the production of spatial information, representing the design with the tools of reading, scrutiny and creative expression.
Mode of Delivery: Face to face

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1) While doing spatial analysis in a given space/problem area, they can create an inventory with concepts such as light, acoustics, texture, body, and ratio. They develop the ability to define the design problem and create a spatial program as an output of the research and analysis processes. At the stage of developing the project idea, they develop research skills in the fields of conceptual framework, materials and structure. In transferring the various uses/functions they propose to the space, they gain mastery of sizing, ergonomics, universal design criteria, and the ability to question and reproduce them.
  2) Students who successfully complete this course; They learn the documentation techniques needed to produce the spatial information of the place in the project and develop creative methods for analysis. They acquire the ability to read the experiential layers of space and to represent them with creative expression tools.
  3) They present their projects with two-dimensional and three-dimensional representation tools in a way to express the character/atmosphere of the space by using creative expression forms, taking into account technical drawing criteria and graphic quality. By giving importance to the context and integrity in design, they develop sensitivity to produce original readings about the place and be inspired by the context, and in this way, they build spatial character in their projects.
