Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: Understand the foundations and content of development and learning. Learn and acquire learning styles and strategies according to cognitive development, moral development, personality development, behavioral and cognitive approaches.
Course Objective: Explain the concepts based on basic principles of psychology. Understand student behavior within the scope of developmental and learning psychology and acquire necessary behavior regulation methods and skills. Contribute the professional and personality development of students. Benefit from the knowledge of developmental psychology at learning and teaching. Explain the factors affecting learning. Explain the basics of learning. Explain and elaborate learning theories. Try to understand the relationship between learning theories. Utilize learning theories in teaching and learning.

  1) Explains the meaning, scope and function of the concept of psychology. Lists the history of psychology and the approaches that direct the science of psychology. Explains the views on the necessity and importance of developmental and learning psychology. Explains the methods used in developmental and learning psychology. Lists the research techniques used in developmental and learning psychology.
  2) Defines the basic concepts related to development. Understands areas of development. Explains the development principles. Defines developmental periods. Explains development tasks. Explains the biological and environmental bases of development. Outlines the importance of knowing the nature of development.
  3) Defines the concepts related to physical and kinetic growth. Explains physical and kinetic development in pre-school, primary and secondary education. Distinguishes the differences in physical and kinetic development according to gender differences. Introduces the symptoms seen on boys and girls during sexual development. Lists the responsibilities related to physical and kinetic development at the teaching process.
  4) Recognizes psychosocial development theories. Explains the psychosocial development stages according to the developmental stages.
  5) Explains the terms related to cognitive development and language development. Explains Piaget's theory of cognitive development. Discusses different views of language development. Evaluates the effect of developmental principles on children's cognitive and language development.
  6) Defines personality. Comprehends different theoretical views about personality development, makes evaluations in terms of personality development. Evaluates the relationship between personality development theories and educational processes. Explains the process of moral development within the framework of moral development theories. Lists the requirements of a healthy moral development scientifically.
  7) Explains the basic concepts of learning and teaching. Recognizes the quality of learning. Distinguish between innate and learned behaviors from each others.
  8) Explains the Concept of Learning Psychology Explain the formation process of learning according to the behaviorist approach. Discusses the differences and similarities of approach of behaviorist theorists. Lists the basic principles of behavioral learning theory. Explains the effects of previous experiences on behavior and learning.
  9) Lists the factors affecting learning. Lists the factors related to learner. Explains the concepts of age, intelligence, motivation, general arousal and anxiety, physiological state, transfer of previous knowledge at learning.
  10) Biological Foundations of Learning Comprehends the biological foundations of learning Explains how learning gains are recorded in the brain. Explains between which parts of the brain thinking, comprehension and learning occur.
  11) Explains the effect of senses at learning Explains the role of sense organs at learning Explains the learning aspects of the central nervous system.
  12) Explains the information flow process of the mental structure. Lists the memory types and their properties. Distinguishes what type of information is stored in memory. Explains how to use cognitive processes effectively in learning action. Determines from which stage of the cognitive process the learning deficiencies arise. Explains the executive functions. Introduces the information processing model and compares it with other learning theories.
  13) Explains the basic concepts of Gestalt Theory. Lists how to use the laws of Gestalt theory in practice. Explains the positive aspects and limitations of Gestalt theory. Evaluates the basic concepts, principles, positive aspects and limitations of the humanistic approach.
  14) The Social Learning Theory Comprehends the social learning theory. Explains the relationship between model and observer. Lists the basic principles of the theory. Explains the learning processes in social learning theory. Lists educational principles with social learning theory.
