Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: It enables them to understand the social, cultural, economic and political structure of Turkey. By aiming to teach students to evaluate the causes, consequences and effects of social changes in Turkey, it increases students' ability to analyze social events from a critical perspective and their awareness of their own society. It allows them to understand how the structure is shaped.
Course Objective: 1. Understand the key concepts and theories related to social structure and its significance in the context of Turkey.
2. Analyze the historical development and evolution of social structures in Turkey, including the influence of various factors such as religion, ethnicity, and class.
3. Examine the social stratification system in Turkey and its impact on individuals and communities, including issues of inequality, social mobility, and social exclusion.
4. Explore the role of gender in the social structure of Turkey, including the challenges and opportunities faced by women and the LGBTQ+ community.
5. Investigate the dynamics of ethnic and religious diversity in Turkish society, including the experiences of minority groups and their interactions with the dominant culture.
6. Examine the impact of globalization and modernization on the social structure of Turkey, including changes in family structures, urbanization, and the rise of new social classes.
7. Analyze the role of education, media, and other institutions in shaping and reinforcing social structures in Turkey.
8. Develop critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate and interpret social phenomena in Turkey, using sociological theories and research methods.
9. Foster an understanding of the interconnectedness between social structure and other aspects of Turkish society, such as politics, economy, and culture.
10. Encourage open and respectful discussions on sensitive topics related to social structure in Turkey, promoting empathy, tolerance, and cultural understanding.
