Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: To introduce students to basic sociological concepts and research methods that will prepare them for their future studies in the field.
Course Objective: To acquire theoretical knowledge about sociology, to have knowledge about social facts, institutions and facts.

Learning Outcomes

  1) Gain knowledge of the emergence of sociology as a scientific discipline and its historical development process. Defines data collection and analysis methods used in sociological research processes. Gains knowledge about the functioning of the structure that organizes the social processes and enables the society to fulfill its functions. Gain sociological knowledge about different dimensions of social stratification such as class, race, ethnicity and gender.
  2) Learns the historical development process of school social work.
  3) Learns the roles and responsibilities of the school social worker.
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) It analyzes the different forms of social groups, actions and movements, and the effects of these factors on social transformation. Have a critical approach with the knowledge gained in the field of sociology. Gains the awareness of acting in accordance with ethical values with the knowledge gained in the field of sociology.
  2) Gains social work intervention skills for problems experienced at school.
  3) Learns Skills Needed in School Practice
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1) Develops a sociological understanding of the effects of the socialization process on the personality development of the individual. Analyzes and evaluates social events, institutions and facts from a sociological point of view by gaining theoretical knowledge about sociology.
