PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM:

The purpose of the program is to provide students with a comprehensive and cutting-edge education that prepares them for successful careers in the dynamic fields of global economy and finance. Our program aims to instill a deep understanding of economic principles and financial markets, while developing analytical skills, ethical decision-making abilities, and a profound knowledge of the global economic environment. By integrating diverse courses in economics, finance, management, marketing, statistics, and law, we ensure that our graduates are well-equipped to excel in various professional roles and adapt to the evolving demands of the 21st-century economic and financial landscape.

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

Student admission to the Economics and Finance (English) program at Istanbul Kent University is governed by the regulations set forth by the Higher Education Institution (YÖK). Turkish students are admitted through the centralized exam managed by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). After students declare their preferences, they are placed into relevant programs based on their exam scores.
Foreign students can gain admission with internationally recognized exam results such as SAT and ACT or based on their internationally accepted high school graduation diploma. Admission of exchange students is facilitated through bilateral agreements (Erasmus or General Academic Protocol) signed between Istanbul Kent University and partner universities. Guest students may enroll in courses offered by this program, subject to approval by the relevant academic unit. Proficiency in the English language is required to follow the program.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

Students who will graduate from the relevant program must fulfill the following conditions:
Students are eligible to graduate upon the successful completion of 240 ECTS credits over the course of the 8-semester program. To qualify for graduation, students must pass all required courses in the curriculum within the designated time frame and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING:

Departmental changes, lateral transfers, admission of foreign students, and exemptions for previously completed courses are conducted in accordance with the relevant legislation.

PROGRAM QUALIFICATION:

1) Possesses a comprehensive understanding of economic principles and theories.
2) He/She is equipped with basic financial knowledge concerning investment evaluation, corporate governance, financial markets and institutions, and sources of corporate funding.
3) Explains basic economic and financial theories to non-experts, evaluates the performance of the economy of Türkiye and position of Türkiye in the global economy in different periods.
4) Understands the historical background and philosophical fundamentals of economic theories and learns economics as a social science that analyzes production, consumption, and distribution relations.

5) He/She is able to follow digital transformations and use information and communication technologies effectively.
6) Possesses communication competence in English at least at B2 level.
7) Models economic problems by using quantitative analysis and mathematical methods.
8) Uses microeconomic and macroeconomic theories to analyze business settings, competition, and the evolving economic and financial environment.
9) Assesses marketing and business plans, designs product market development activities for the private sector, and applies algebraic, graphical, and statistical tools to analyze financial and economic problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND RULES PRESENTED IN THE PROGRAM:

All academic activities required for successful course completion – such as theoretical lectures, practical sessions, seminars, individual study, exams, and homework – are quantified using the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). This student-centered credit system reflects the total workload involved. Students are required to enroll in courses which have at least 30 ECTS credits each semester.
Upon graduation, academic success is assessed based on the Academic Grade Average (GPA). Course success is determined by the average of midterm and final or make-up exam grades. For the student to graduate, he/she must succeed in all the courses with a minimum of 120 ECTS credits in the curriculum, and his/her GPA must be at least 60 out of 100.

EXAMS, MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION:

Exams are graded on a scale of 100 points. The final grade for the year is calculated by combining 40% of the midterm grade average with 60% of the end-of-year exam grade.
