Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to provide international students with no prior knowledge of Turkish with basic communication skills at the A1 level, enabling them to understand and use simple expressions related to daily life.
Course Objective: To recognize the Turkish alphabet and pronounce it correctly, to introduce oneself using simple sentences, to understand and use everyday expressions, to develop basic Turkish listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, to communicate using basic question and answer structures.

Learning Outcomes

  1) Recognizes the letters of the Turkish alphabet and explains their phonetic characteristics.
  2) Identifies the basic parts of speech in Turkish (noun, verb, adjective, pronoun, etc.).
  3) Explains how basic sentence structures are formed in Turkish.
  4) Recognizes commonly used basic words and expressions in daily life.
  5) Recognizes basic grammatical structures such as the present continuous tense (-(I)yor), pronouns, and question particles.
  6) Recognizes commonly used greetings, introductions, and leave-taking expressions.
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) Introduces himself/herself, his/her family, and place of residence using simple sentences.
  2) Understands and appropriately uses basic expressions found in daily conversations.
  3) Produces simple written texts such as forms, notes, and messages.
  4) Reads short and simple texts (announcements, forms, messages, dialogues) and extracts basic information.
  5) Initiates and maintains basic conversations using simple question patterns.
  6) Understands basic words and expressions in visual and audio materials.
