Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: The purpose of this course is to deeply examine the historical, geographical, cultural, and political structure of the Middle East, with the aim of understanding the region's current situation. Students will analyze the ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity of the Middle East, post-colonial political structures, and the influence of Western powers on the region. Additionally, topics such as the rise of Arab nationalism, the formation of modern Arab identity, the impact of oil revenues on social structures, and cultural movements following the Arab Spring will be explored. By the end of the course, students will be able to evaluate the historical development of the Middle East, cultural resistance movements, and transformations within modern social structures from a comprehensive perspective.
Course Objective: The goal of this course is to equip students with the ability to evaluate the historical and cultural structure of the Middle East through an analytical perspective. By the end of the course, students will be able to:

Understand the geographical boundaries, ethnic and religious diversity of the Middle East, and how these structures influence societal dynamics.
Analyze the political structures that emerged in the Middle East in the post-colonial period and the impact of Western powers on the region.
Examine the historical development processes of Arab nationalism and modern Arab identity.
Discuss the effects of oil revenues on social structure, culture, and politics in the Middle East.
Understand the changes and transformations in the fields of art and culture following the Arab Spring.
Evaluate cultural resistance movements in the modern Middle East and the preservation and reinterpretation of traditional cultures.
By the end of the course, students will have the knowledge and skills to critically analyze the historical, cultural, and political dynamics of the Middle East.

  3) Students will deeply examine the political and social transformations during the transition from colonialism to modern Middle Eastern political structures.
  4) Students will evaluate the rise of Arab nationalism and the formation of modern Arab identity from a historical perspective.
  5) Students will interpret the effects of oil revenues on social and cultural structures in the Middle East.
  6) Students will analyze artistic and cultural movements following the Arab Spring and discuss identity and cultural resistance processes in the modern Middle East.
  7) Students will critically evaluate the preservation, reinterpretation, and modernization of traditional cultures in the region.
