Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: Within the scope of this course, in which the history of the Middle East takes center stage, it is aimed that students have the capacity to evaluate current developments in the region in the context of historical continuities and ruptures. It is also aimed that students have the necessary and sufficient knowledge to analyze Turkey's regional policy.
Course Objective: The Turkey and the Middle East course basically aims to examine the social, economic and political structure of the Middle East from the 19th century to the present and the relations of the states in the region with Turkey. First, the geographical, economic, social and political structure of the region will be discussed. Additionally, the strategic importance of the region will be emphasized. After drawing the general outlines of the history of the Middle East until the 19th century, basic topics such as the colonization of the region, independence and nation-stateization processes and political regime types, the basic ideologies that shape the regional politics, various regional problems, especially the Palestine-Israel problem, and the "Arab spring" are discussed. space will be given.
