Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: The main objective of this course is to introduce and familiarize students with the events that occur within the discipline of International Relations. The main objective is to provide a comprehensive and detailed overview of the main academic traditions and important debates in the discipline of International Relations. In this way, students will become familiar with the debates on the main concepts and issues. Within the scope of the course, students will examine and investigate the events that occur in the world ontologically, epistemologically and methodologically.

The objectives of this course are:
- To introduce students to different perspectives or intellectual frameworks for understanding what is called International Relations (although many prefer terms such as international, transnational, global or world politics) and to develop the ability to apply these perspectives to understand events, processes and/or practices
- To examine the basic assumptions, conceptual and theoretical insights of the discipline of International Relations and to relate them to both contemporary events and historical processes, evaluating their contributions and shortcomings
- To enable students to develop a critical understanding of how the subject/object of the discipline of International Relations - the international - is constructed as a field of study.
Course Objective: The objectives and outcomes of this course are:
- Learn how to think and write critically about key debates in contemporary IR
- Explain different frameworks for thinking about international politics
- Discuss a range of ideas, concepts and texts in international political theory and the historical contexts in which they arose
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of alternative ways of explaining, understanding and judging contemporary international politics.

  1) The final outcome of the course is to learn to think and write critically about important debates in the discipline of contemporary international relations, to explain different frameworks for thinking about international politics, to discuss various ideas, concepts and texts in international politics and the historical contexts in which they emerged, and to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of alternative ways of explaining, understanding and judging contemporary international politics.
  2) Understand the different perspectives prevailing in the IR discipline.
  3) To learn concepts related to International Relations and to be able to explain diplomatic and political events from different IR perspectives.
