Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: Visual Communication Design I is both a technical and creative studio. The course aims to explore the ways of seeing, making and thinking by using both analog and digital mediums, various materials and tools, and methods.
Course Objective: • To use visual communication techniques not only as a method of expression but also as a method of design.
• To explore different visual communication techniques and tools and to develop one's own unique visual language and expression.
• To get to know the artists and architects in collaboration with contemporary visual culture and its tools in art, design and (interior) architecture, and to be a part of this visual culture.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
  1) To know various visual communication techniques that can be used in design.
  2) To recognize the methods and tools of design and self-expression.
  3) To comprehend the importance of inventive techniques in visual communication.
  4) To understand that visual communication is a part of the design process.
  5) To understand the importance of using different tools in visual communication techniques as well as different sources.
  6) To get familiar with the visual cultural environment in art, design and architecture not only in Turkey but also in the world.

  1) To develop hand, mind and eye coordination.
  2) To use analog and digital techniques.
