Purpose and content of the course

Course Objectives: To examine scientific research methods in social sciences and to enable students to make original studies by using scientific research process.
Course Objective: To be able to conduct scientific research in the field of Social Services,
to be able to do research with qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
  1) Understands what scientific research is, how to determine the stages of scientific research, how to determine the subject and problematic of the research, how to narrow down a selected research, and how to reach academic research. 2. Will be able to explain the content of the conceptual framework of the research, the hypothesis of the research, the determination of the variables of the research and the types of variables, the difference between the research hypothesis and hypothesis. 3. Explain what qualitative research means, basic features of qualitative research, and how qualitative research should be planned. 4. Will be able to explain the main qualitative research designs, what the case study method is, what the ethnographic research method is, what the embedded theory is and what stages it consists of, and the basic concepts of qualitative data analysis. 5. Will be able to explain the quantitative research method, quantitative research designs, the meaning of hypothesis testing, the stages of hypothesis testing, parametric and non-parametric testing. 6. Will be able to explain why mixed methods are needed in social sciences, what mixed methods and designs are and how they are used. Scientific studies that have been studied with the sample mixed method are examined. 7. Will be able to explain why sampling is needed in social science research, the basic concepts of the research universe and sample, the stages of the sampling process, and the types of qualitative and quantitative sampling. 8. Will be able to explain the concept of data in social sciences, what data types are and the differences between data types, what quantitative data collection tools are, what qualitative data collection tools are, what to consider when designing data collection tools. "

  1) "9. Can perform SPSS application related to SPSS data entry, data editing, parametric and non-parametric tests. 10. Can explain what correlation means, in which situations correlation can be used, what regression means and in what situations it can be used. Can make SPSS application about correlation, regression. "

  1) Can make original studies by using scientific research process. Develops, plans and manages group projects.
  2) Identifies and comments on the problems related to the field of Social Services, Develops new ideas and methods that produce solutions in the field of study. Can do research with qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods in the field of Social Services.
